Green Roof at the Boys and Girls Club

The energy efficient roof was unveiled Tuesday, October 14 at a noontime press conference.

This summer, a new, heat efficient roof was installed at the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing with the help of GET City participants. The “green roof” is actually white, and increases energy efficiency in the summer by reflecting sunlight better than a black or stone-covered roof. During the summer, GET City activitis focused on the green roof, and included a trip to the plant where it was manufactured. Three new skylights were also added to the club building in order to decrease lighting requirements. GET City participants studied where to place these skylights, and made a proposal to the club that was ultimately accepted!
