Meet the Girls

Hi! I am Amara. I want to be a pulmonologist when I grow up and specialize in pulmonary embolisms, a condition from which my grandmother passed away when I was young. Keke is my twin sister and she said I am the “quiet” one compared to her.

Hi! I’m Keke. Amara said I’m “crazy” and “loud,” which I would consider as a compliment. When I experience a loss of power and freedom, I keep looking for it. I’m interested in engineering through the hobby of “breaking stuff to see the inside” and to see how things work and how they’re assembled.

Hi! I am Nila. I am 12 years old and I love art, dance, being outside, and playing video games. I excelled in drama, having the lead role in The Lion King during our sixth-grade class performance. I also enjoy being part of the maker club, where I feel it’s a non-judgmental space. I’m particularly skilled at soldering, making signs, and science.

GET City Collaborative!

The GET City Collaborative provides sustained informal engineering design experiences for youth in Michigan and North Carolina. We focus on youth as Community Science Experts and support youths' powerful brilliance as STEM-rich makers as they seek to work towards justice in their maker clubs and communities. We provide youth access to advanced digital technology, science and engineering knowledge and practice, maker spaces, and a network of experts to advance their understandings of and interest in community sustainability, energy and engineering. Founded in 2006, GET City has provided learning, mentoring, and research opportunities to youth ages 10-18.
