Welcome back!
The Fall session of GET City has kicked off with the crew from our intensive Summer session back to continue work on their green design.
Summer Guests and Fieldtrips
During the Summer 2011 Program, GET City got a chance to visit a bunch of sites in Michigan that are leaders in sustainable building design, and hosted several experts that shared their work and ideas with the group. Here are some highlights.
Heat Energy
Federico Steinvorth of MSU’s School of Planning, Design & Construction visited GET City to talk about thermal insulation and insulation efficiency. He brought along a thermal camera and let the group take some fun pictures.
GET City Kicks Off Summer
This week begins the summer session of GET City, held on the campus of MSU. The crew above will be diving into LEED design (that’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and checking out sustainable building design, green roof technology, thermal imaging, and designing buildings using Google Sketchup! Painting Chicago Green
August 19-20 a group of 16 GET Citians trekked from Lansing to Chicago to expand their work on green energy technologies.
Summer Surprise
Thanks to Michigan Energy Options and Riverfront Cycles for donating bikes for all participants in GET City’s 2010 summer program. The theme was “Complete Streets” and this gift will give GET Citians a chance to practice alternative energy! We even made the local news- check it out below.
Make that Change
Jazzy, Chantalice and Camryn visited their school, Pleasant View Elementary, in search of incandescent bulbs that could be replaced with with CFLs. In this video, they explain why that’s important. It also looks like a lot of fun!

Bianca & Theresa rap about coal In this video rap, we tell you the story of coal: how it is harvested and its impact on the environment. This is important because many electricity plants use coal to make electricity.
