GET City took a trip to Lansing Community College (LCC) and visited Sean Huberty, a professor in the Alternative Energy Program Technology Program. They learned about LCC’s “off the grid house” that they designed and plan to build in Northern Michigan.
LCC is converting a condemned home to make it sustainable and energy efficient. This house will have both solar panels and wind turbines to supply the electricity to the house. Solar water panels will provide home heating and hot water. The main heating option of this house is geothermal energy, in which heat is transferred into the house from below ground, where the temperature is always 50-55°F.
