Urban Heat Islands

March 2, 2020
Today we built different biomes and measured their temperature on a glacier, in a park setting and in a built up environment to learn more about how the local environment “heats up” or not in the sun. We used our bright light at the sun, and then measured the temperature of our biomes at Time = 0, 1 min, 2 min, 3 min… Guess what? The Built up environment (which was a beautiful parking lot made out of construction paper) heated up the most. It started at 68F and went up 85F in 5 minutes. The Glacier (which we made out of white construction paper covering a bowl) went from 68F to 70F in the same amount of time.
